No holidays for the top IT News! A lot happened in June: like the weather, the IT news was very “hot”. On the menu: data security, the CNIL can spoil your summer holidays. Carrefour goes on holiday in Google’s Cloud. Good last minute plan: the Drone as a Service.
TOP 1: The CNIL sanctions an association for breach of data security
June, the holidays are approaching, your holidays are scheduled: no madness this year, we go to Bretagne to enjoy the sunny beaches of the coasts of Cornouailles, mountain biking and some hikes. In short, all is well in the best of all worlds.
What could ruin your vacation? Nothing! Unless you are the IT manager of the home development association (ADEF). Indeed the CNIL has just sanctioned the ADEF for not having sufficiently protected the data of the users of its website.
The penalty? 75.000€. Enough to go around the world in 5 star hotels.
The reason? A security breach that made the personal data of housing applicants who registered on the association’s website accessible. It was sufficient to modify the URL to access documents registered by other applicants and personal data: name, first name, telephone number, address, tax notice, passports, identity cards, residence permits, salary slips, CAF payment certificates, etc.
The association cooperated well with the CNIL, but given the gravity of the violation, the CNIL had no other choice.
We can never remind you enough: remember to turn off the water and gas in your home and secure your IS before going on holiday.
TOP 2 : Carrefour switches 160,000 stations to G Suite
Where to go this summer? We can do very good deals thanks to Internet : between AirBnb the travel comparators, Last Minute … Carrefour chose the sun of California and leave in the Cloud of Google : indeed the French group will switch 160.000 workstations on G Suite.
As a reminder G Suite is the equivalent of Outlook 365. The Google suite provides access to an online email service (Gmail), to tools equivalent (or almost) to the Office suite: word processing, spreadsheet, presentation / slideshow. Google also offers Hangout which allows you to make video meetings.
This is a challenge for Carrefour, which will be able to develop collaborative work, improve the productivity of its teams and eventually achieve savings. Nevertheless, any cloud solution brings its share of challenges and security issues.
TOP 3: Do you know the Drone as a service?
Unidentified flying object, such is the description of a drone. Another invention based on military use. But isn’t this the common lot of many new technologies like GPS or microwave or internet?
From now on, the UAV will be part of the company’s strategy. The cinema is the first sector to have found a use other than conflict zone overflight. He uses it for “complicated” shots.
Then the industry took over the drone. This flying object makes it possible to monitor infrastructures and installations.
Farmers also quickly found an interest in the UAV that criss-crosses agricultural areas.
And that’s just the beginning. We are not unaware that Amazon is testing delivery by drone. Only regulations and legislation block the implementation of this service in France.
We look forward to seeing how the UAV will enter the strategies of tomorrow’s companies
