How can I manage the scalability of the information system with ceBox®?

Both user needs and tools are changing, so the information system and CIO must change along with them…

But how?

The CIO must optimize desktop administration, ensure the company’s data security, and control investments.

Here’s a detailed explanation of how the CIO can better manage the scalability of the information system and thus better satisfy their users thanks to the ceBox® solution.

Background and issues of the scalability of the information system for IT departments

Desktop virtualization (VDI) seemed to be able to resolve two of these issues: (1) ensure IT security by homogenizing desktop and allowing for rapid updates and (2) reduce the costs of ownership.

But it’s clear that today’s VDI no longer follows changes in user needs. New software is too extensive. For example, browsers need more memory to run software in SaaS mode.

Users need up-to-date terminals and a CIO who can quickly provide them with new tools so that their productivity is unaffected. The terminals must also be reliable because programs’ system resource requirements are rapidly changing.

Multimedia needs have also been changing very rapidly in the past few years. There have been many changes in companies’ telephony, with organizations often wanting to implement softphone solutions.

Meetings are not necessarily face to face, so users need videoconferencing solutions. Business executives also need increasingly extensive multimedia software for graphics, video, or 3D.

Rhythm almost impossible to follow for IT department

Breakdown of communication between IT and management

Heterogeneous IT/monitoring impossible

Drop in the company’s competitiveness and productivity

Possible security breach depending on the acquired company’s security measures

The ceBox® solution makes the most of VDI solutions by homogenizing and remotely managing all of its terminals. Since the solution works in read-only mode, all IT is secure.

The solution also makes the most of computer solutions. Users’ virtual machines are executed locally, closer to the users themselves. Therefore, user software isn’t run by virtual resources but rather by physical resources (CPU, RAM, GPU, etc.).

For example, the ceBox® solution can run the latest version of Adobe. You can even come test how the ceBox® solution performs at our Wisper Lab in Paris. Contact us to schedule an appointment.

Manage the provision of a new tool in 3 steps with ceBox®

1. Update the master, install the new tool

Once the CIO has validated the provision of the new tool, the terminal administrator can update the master (master image deployed on the terminals). This will then create a new version (differential) with the new tool that users requested. The tool is installed as it would be on a standard computer and therefore takes very little time.

2. Test the new tool

The CIO can decide to test the new version of the master with the new tool on a small number of users so as not to affect production. The goal is to ensure that there are no side effects. This step complies with ITIL recommendations and does not take much time.

3. Deploy the new version

Once the update is validated, the desktop administrator can finalize the deployment of the new version of the master to all the desktop. They can remotely choose which terminals the update should be deployed on at remote sites. In the event of a problem, the administrator can restore the terminals very quickly. Simply restarting the terminals restores the previous version.
