Desktop virtualization (VDI) seemed to be able to resolve two of these issues by: (1) ensuring IT security by homogenising the desktop and allowing for rapid updates and (2) reducing the costs of ownership.

Manage the provision of a new tool in 3 steps with ceBoxOS®

1. Update the master, install the new tool

Once the CIO has validated the provision of the new tool, the terminal administrator can update the master (the master image is deployed on the terminals). This will then create a new version (differential) with the new tool that users requested. The tool is installed as it would be on a standard computer and, therefore, takes very little time.

2. Test the new tool

The CIO can decide to test the new version of the master with the new tool on a small number of users so as not to affect production. The goal is to ensure that there are no side effects. This step complies with ITIL recommendations and does not take much time.

3. Deploy the new version

Once the update is validated, the desktop administrator can finalise the installation of the new version of the master to each of the desktops. They can choose remotely which terminals the update should be deployed on at other sites. In the event of a problem, the administrator can restore the terminals very quickly. Simply restarting the terminals restores the previous version.
