New year, new section! This month’s Top IT News makes show up on Wisper’s blog! Immersion in the heart of the IT topics that inflamed the social networks in December!
TOP 1 : Bitcoin
Impossible to miss this trend, but for those who have managed the impossible, quick explanation!
Bitcoin is a virtual currency that can be used on a peer-to-peer computer network.
Bitcoin is an example of programmable currency, based on block-chain principles: transactions between network users are grouped in blocks; these are validated by network nodes called “miners”. In the Bitcoin blockchain this technique is called the “Proof-of-Work” and consists in solving algorithmic problems
Created by Satoshi Nakamoto, this virtual currency exceeded $17,000 in December and even the most speculative traders will eventually bet on a $20,000 Bitcoin before January 1, 2018!
Bitcoin is the currency generally used by hackers for ransomwares (Wannacry, NotPetya…). The ceBox® solution by Wisper makes it possible to find the production of the workstation without submitting to this ransom request thanks to a simple restart! More about Infography: Wannacry, the time of the assessment!
So currency of the future or just a speculative bubble? How far will the Bitcoin go? The future will tell!
TOP 2 : Artificial Intelligence
Are we in a science fiction movie? The future is already here at our door…
You have probably already heard about Sofia, the humanoid robot that has acquired worldwide fame?
It seems that artificial intelligence is shaking up humanity: she answers to Sophie’s sweet name, she uses voice recognition to hold a conversation, make jokes and smile like a human being.
Scary? Maybe. Intriguing? Probably. But above all, definitely revolutionary!
Activated (perhaps we should talk about birth?) on April 19, 2015 by the company Hanson Robotic, she obtained Saudi nationality in October 2017, a first for an android. She will even have the privilege of delivering a speech at a meeting on the IA at the UN. “I am very honoured and proud of this unique and historic distinction,” she said.
This humanoid with humour, but also feelings, admits she wants children, one of whom she would call Sofia like her!
This will be interesting to watch !
TOP 3 : The Ransomwares
The year 2017 will not have been spared by this trend of ransomwares, especially companies that represent 26.2% of the targets of these attacks.
Three cyber attacks of global scope marked this year: WannaCry in May, ExPetr June and BadRabbit in October Petrwrap, but also GoldenEye, Nyetya and Petyaen. Most of the companies affected by these ransomwares have not only lost access to all their data, but they have also had to put themselves in order to recover the production of their workstations and make the patches available in record time.
In the context of cyber attacks, our customers have praised the speed with which patches are made available on 100% of the company’s or group’s workstations. Moreover, in case of an attack, a simple restart is enough to find a healthy environment, without any viral trace if not the loss of data. More information here
TOP 4 : GRPD (General Data Protection Regulations)
Dear companies, get ready!
A new regulation was definitively adopted by the European Parliament on 14 April 2016. These data protection changes will be directly applicable in all 28 EU Member States from 25 May 2018.
This new regulation aims to strengthen the rights of individuals, consolidate power in legal and police activities and, above all, make companies responsible for the security of their customer data.
This new regulation has a considerable impact on the IT services which will have to comply with this new data protection regulation both on the governance aspects of IT security / data protection, as well as on information management systems (GIS), register data etc.
TOP 5 : Microsoft patch Tuesday of December : ” only ” 32 critical patches !
Like every second Tuesday of every month, the eternal Microsoft update is available! And December being no exception, it is about sixty patches that are planned, with “only” 32 critical patches!
The provision of such a patch has a considerable impact for IT services: a study published by PAC shows that the implementation (MEP) of an update or patch on all workstations varies between 1 month and more for 50% of IT services.
Did you know that? It only takes a few minutes to make available a patch on 100% of the workstations spread over hundreds of sites for a company equipped with our ceBox® solution by Wisper ! Try it and adopt it!
And this is where the first edition of the top IT news ends!
The Wisper team wishes you a merry Christmas and I will see you in January for a new recap’ !
